The Eco Niche Challenge: Don’t Upgrade

So the other night I did something I hadn’t done in years. I recorded a TV show to watch later… on my VHS recorder.  Yup, the 15 year old TV with built in VHS player included was given to me as a gift for my 13th birthday and has survived a move cross country, four years of college, and now lives in my kitchen. I honestly don’t recall when or why I stopped using it but I did. And now its back.

I know DVR is better but really, how many hours of television shows does one really need to watch? Zero. So my 6 hour VHS tapes should be plenty.

I admitted this to friends on Facebook and got asked if I wanted to listen to some of their awesome mix cassettes. Yes!
If it ain’t broken, don’t fix it or better yet don’t upgrade. I dare you.

What item has had a long life in your home? Or have you reused an item giving it a new purpose in life?

I have a tv/vcr as well and I love my old VHS tapes and cassette tapes. My husband and my first bed was the same bedframe that my dad had for his bed growing up. We still have it, it’s just moved to the guest room and we’ve upgraded to a full sized bed.
